IntelliScanner Wine Collector 300

I was excited to give my husband this product for Christmas. The idea was to alleviate the manual process of entering/exiting wine from our cellar, thus keeping up with our inventory easily by simply zapping the bar code. It turns out that 8 or 9 out of 10 bottles were not able to be identified by the bar code reader, forcing us to enter the information manually, still. It seems that many non-U.S. wines either don't have bar codes, have bar codes that aren't recognized, or have bar codes that refer to a distributor, not the wine itself. We decided to return this product for a refund and regroup on how to easily keep up with our wine cellar inventory. Perhaps it would work better with an inventory of mostly domestic wines?

This is still a work in progress. Concept is good but still lacks access to wine data that would enhance your wine collecting/tracking experience.

It took a lot of time to catalog and enter all of our bottles (about 500) as a lot of our wines did not have barcodes, and of those that did, a lot of them were not recognized in the database and had to be manually entered anyway. The feature that gives you the peak dates for drinking is nice, but only appears for very few of the wines in our collection.

i am not very computer savy, but this device was easy to use and very practical.
