I use my trivet on my dining room table for those hot dishes. It holds up well, but do be mindful that some corks if not properly secured will come loose after use.

We ordered five of these kits. We found four of them to be of such poor quality and workmanship that we returned them. Moreover, the size is wrong for common-sized corks. It is one-half inch too wide forcing one to saw corks in half to get a tight fit. The design opted for squareness which creates the problem. A few years ago we bought one of these in oak (rather than maple)and found the fit and finish to be superior to the maple. WineEnthusiast is no longer offering oak.

I have made dozens of these for gifts. However I find that I have to add a thin layer of plywood to the bottom before arranging the corks. This way the corks stick above the edges and protect the hot pot from the varnished wood . I also think they are very attractive. I also make it a point of telling the people that I am giving them to that they cost over $400.00 each. They do when you factor in the wine I have to drink to get the corks.

The cork triveet was not only a wonderful project for my daughter to make for her father's Christmas present, but he will enjoy using it. He has been making his own wines during the last year, and this will be a perfect compliment when serving wine with snacks at parties.

It is a great idea. My daughter collects wine corks and wanted to make holiday gifts for family. We are very handy and creative and these were a challenge in that the dimensions didn't work with standard corks. We were forced to do a lot of cutting and sanding. The glue provided was useless. We used a hot glue gun which worked well. The finished product was actually quite nice.

I think this is a great gift idea. I did not have a problem fitting the corks in w/o leaving a gap. I found that some corks were shorter. I made a border around the edge of the frame by placing the corks sideways (parallel to each edge). Then I filled in the middle with the corks in straight vertical lines. Worked like a charm. You just have to play with the corks until it fits. If you put them in all in vertical lines, you will have a gap. I did not even try the glue that came with it. I used a hot glue gun.
