I think this is a great gift idea. I did not have a problem fitting the corks in w/o leaving a gap. I found that some corks were shorter. I made a border around the edge of the frame by placing the corks sideways (parallel to each edge). Then I filled in the middle with the corks in straight vertical lines. Worked like a charm. You just have to play with the corks until it fits. If you put them in all in vertical lines, you will have a gap. I did not even try the glue that came with it. I used a hot glue gun.

The idea is fantastic, but it didn't come with instructions. What am I supposed to do with the sandpaper? Who knows. I am still eager to start collecting the corks to finish the project.

The inside dimensions are slightly to wide. These creates spaces between the corks which has caused some of the corks to become unglued. USe thicker wood or a smaller size by about 1/2 inch.

An easy product to use -- just be careful to use varying size corks, and do a dry-run before gluing corks to the trivet, because the trivet dimensions don't match the cork layout pictured.

I collect corks and have purchased at least 8 of these and made them to give as gifts. (The one I own was a gift as well--already made.) Everyone loves them. They usually are displayed on or near a bar area. The only downside these days is that they aren't using real "cork" very much anymore, so it's taking longer to gather a nice, diverse set of corks to make a trivet.

Any of the wine corkboard project are great for expressing your artfulness. There are numerous ways to display the corks and they end up beautiful. I display them together on my dining room wall as artwork except for the trivet. I had one person comment so positively on the trivet that I gave it as a gift so now I'm making a couple more.

I bought 2 ...use in kitchen and on back porch when eating by the pool...great for hot dishes and everyone can see all the wines I have served.....great fun and practical
