BYO Deluxe Double Wine Cellar Kit (Dark Walnut)

Americas Finest Wine Cellar Kit. Period. You wont find amenities of this quality and style in any other wine cellar kit. Designers of the BYO Deluxe Edition havent sacrificed affordability either. Theyve upgraded the Build-Your-Own cellar and kept the low price the same. And still the lowest per…

4.0

Pros

  • Adjustable Shelving
  • Looks great
  • Attractive Design
  • Works as described

Cons

  • Takes time to build
  • Loud

Best Uses

  • Bar

The product looks great and functions well. Aside from the time it took to put together everything is as good as I expected or better. Two things on assembly, the screws on the back are still listed wrong and do not overtighten the hinge screws as you will pull the nut out. Use a 3" screw if you do.

OK For Home Wine Storage

3.0

Pros

  • Price per bottle storage
  • Thick woods

Cons

  • Waxed finish stained
  • Drill bit would be better
  • Difficult door alignment
  • Lighting is useless
  • Plastic hinge washers
  • Warped wood

Best Uses

  • Home storage

First and most important is to lay out and account for all the pieces! Adjust screws moderately and wait until everything is plumb before tightening screws. You can snap off the allen wrench in a vice, since cutting hardened steel is nearly impossible, and create yourself a drill bit and use in a battery screw gun or drill. If you do not use a drill you will give your hand repeditive stress injuries... there are a lot of screws in this kit. It is possible the wood is not properly seasoned and when you unwrap it you may find the waxed finish looking like it has damaged finish. With a little work, it will clean up. Be prepared for a lot of heavy lifting and place wood strapping on the ground when assembling so you can get underneath the cabinet to lift it. Take it easy, drink some wine and call over a couple of friends and you can get it put together in an afternoon.

Decent for the money.

3.0

Pros

  • Reasonably Priced

Cons

  • Can Not Adjust Shelving
  • Loud

Best Uses

Fit is less than perfect. The center shelf support is about 1/8 inch too thick. This causes the doors to not close well if you don't use extra silicone and not tighten the screws attaching the center of the back panels fully. Chiller unit is a bit noisy but in our application it is not an issue. Should hold a good quantity of bottles.

Good Product, Great QPR!

4.0

Pros

  • Attractive Design

Cons

  • Can Not Adjust Shelving
  • Poor instructions

Best Uses

[...]Took about 5 hrs. to assemble but was relativly easy. Instructions were very basic. I was able to assemble all by my self but it was a little difficult. Definately purchase a caulk gun and a tube of silicone to seal all joints. Too bad the shelves don't slide but truly a great value for the money. I was able to fit 12 .750ml bottles on a shelf regardless of the shape. In addition, small .375 bottles could be squeesed in to make 13.

Pros

  • Quiet
  • Attractive Design

Cons

  • Can Not Adjust Shelving

Best Uses

You will need 2 people to put this together - please do not even attempt on your own. After taking everything out the boxes and setting up - we quickly realized that we were sent 3 R hand hinges and 1 L hinge instead of 2 of each[...]. Additionally, our R glass piece in the door was installed by the manufacturer upside down - so the imprint is on the top on the R door, but the bottom on the L...I can live with that - the only thing is that since it was not done correctly one of the doors sits a little higher (I'm probably the only one who notices it), but we were able to work with the doors to make sure they were closing properly.

Good value for the $$$

4.0

Pros

  • Solid wood construction
  • Quiet
  • Price
  • Attractive Design

Cons

  • Instructions not detailed

Best Uses

  • Kitchen
  • Dining Room

I shopped for several months looking for a wine storage unit, I opted to purchase the BYO because of the solid wood construction and it was easily half the price of the vinotemp we had been looking at. Yes the construction takes effort and time, but it's well worth it in the end. As with anything prefab, count on some holes not lining up exact and some other issues along the way ... but if you're at all handy, you can work thru it! I LOVE our wine fridge. We don't find the refrigeration unit at all loud.

Great Looks, functional Shortfalls

3.0

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Excellent Capacity

Cons

  • Can Not Adjust Shelving
  • Inaccurate Temperature
  • Loud

Best Uses

  • DenStudy

I was looking for an economical wine storage unit with ample capacity... I got just that. The BYO wine cellar looks great although the racks within may not line up properly. The lack of sliding shelves (I feel this is a must have feature), erratic fluctuation in temp and the noise refrigeration lends to my dissatisfaction. I recommend spending the extra money to get exactly what you need or want. You will be much happier and better served. What I ended up having is "a good looking somewhat cold noisy dark box with storage shelves..."

Good product for price

4.0

Pros

  • Energy Efficient
  • Attractive Design
  • Quiet

Cons

  • Can Not Adjust Shelving

Best Uses

This is a great product for the price. Very good looking cabinet and shelves. One drawback is the doors have to be open all the way to pull shelves out. This causes a huge loss of cooling for every bottle taken. Also, some kind of shelf markers would be nice.

Nice unit, but difficult assembly

4.0

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Precise Temperature
  • Quiet

Cons

  • Very difficult assembly

Best Uses

  • Personal use

The unit is nice once it is put together, but the assembly is difficult, mainly because the instructions are so terrible. Make sure you have at least two people doing the assembly, and make sure you read through the instructions before you start.
