This was a replacement unit for a 240 bottle wine cabinet. It fits perfectly, but cycles on an off every 5 minutes becuase of the small, overly sensitive temperature sensor

So far, so good, except for the water

3.0

Pros

  • Simple

Cons

  • Too much condensation
  • Not for humid sites

Best Uses

So far, the unit works and keeps wine at a nice 60 F. But in a humid climate, the water collection tray needs to be emptied 2 times daily or it shuts off . . . so you really can't ever go on a vacation. I've installed a continuous drain which works and took about 3 hours, but wonder why the experts at WE could not solve this problem. My old vinotemp never needed a water tray. Is it just that WE wanted a really low cost small unit and cut corners? I'd recommend the unit. . . only if you realize that you will need to rig up a drain.

Used toReplace Unit in VintageKeeper 500

4.0

Pros

  • Precise Temperature
  • Quiet

Cons

Best Uses

  • Wine Cabinet

This worked well as a replacement to the unit that died in my Vintage Keeper 500 wine cabinet. It didn't fit EXACTLY as the old one had, but it was close enough, and a little insulation and insulation tape (like that metal tape used on duct work) works extremely well to fill in the small gaps. This unit is also much quieter than the unit it replaced, and doesn't run as long for each cooling cycle. The air temp gauge goes between 55 and 58 degrees inside the cabinet, which is placed in my 80 degree room (during summer). So it handles fine the 25 degree temp difference.

Appears to be well made especially for the price. Unfortunately I have an old build your own cellar, and the cooling unit is different. This unit doesn't fit and I have to return it.

Works as advertised

I purchased this unit to replace a broken cooling unit in a wine cooler (circa mid 1980's) that a friend gave me. I use it to cellar my beer collection. The cooler is located in my garage, so the outside ambient temperature in the summer may approach the extreme high end (89f max) of what this unit is designed for. Additionally I am unsure about the efficiency rating of my cooler's insulation, though the door seals are fine. It ran constantly for a day or two until the proper interior temperature was reached. Now it runs intermittingly throughtout the day. I think the real test for this unit will be how it operates in 3-5 years. My research indicates that these small units do not have a great track record for longevity. For now, I am pleased with this product purchase.

Doesn't shut off at expected intervals

Pros

  • Quiet
  • Easy Installation

Cons

  • Runs constantly
  • Inaccurate Temperature

Best Uses

  • Very small space

I installed this unit in a small, less than 100 cu. ft. space with two outside walls on the lower level of the house. It runs a good deal of the time to chill to 60 degrees. I recommend this unit for a smaller space. That having been said, I am pleased with the outcome.

Well Built, Simple to Install

4.0

Pros

  • Attractive Design

Cons

  • Inaccurate Temperature
  • Loud

Best Uses

Please know your exact square footage, as this unit barely cools to 59-60 degrees in 94 cubic feet, and runs most of the time to do that. I particularly liked the additional electrical outlet on the unit. It works flawlessly, but I think saying it is adequate for 100 ft is a stretch. Everything else about it is perfect. I should have bought the next step up.

Works fine, if not perfect

4.0

Pros

  • It works

Cons

  • Temp range too limited

Best Uses

  • Small wine cellar

The unit works reasonable well. After several weeks of it running constantly we have not had to empty the drip pan, so the moisture management process works. This may be why the humidity has not dropped significantly, which had been a concern for us before installing. We probably should have purchased a larger unit as our cubic footage is about 50% over capacity. While satisfied having brought the temperature down from 73 to 64F, the thermostat’s range is only from 50 to 60F so it runs all the time. A range from 50 to 70F would be better, allowing us to set it at 65F so it would not have to run constantly. This is in the summer so we anticipate that in the winter we will be able to maintain the room at 60F. It did take a week or more to slowly bring the temperature down, presumably because it had to slowly cool the wine and the cement cellar wall. Note that it is heavy, making it somewhat awkward to install in a confined space but with two of us squeezed into the wine room, one on a step ladder, it was not a significant problem.
