Over the past 15 yrs, I've owned two of these corkscrews. The first one developed a broken auger after about five yrs. The second one just wore out today, 10yrs later. Very durable and quite the conversation piece. Should be used in all resturants serving wines.

I have nothing negative to say about it, I was concerned that it might be made out of a cheap pot metal made to look old fashion and I was plesantly surprised when I opened the package to see that it was heavy duty and works very nice with little effort.

The first item delivered did not work; the second, [...] does and well. Neither order had an instruction manual on repairs, particularly on replacing a screw worm which was bought separately.

We were without this opener for a couple months - our first one wore out after a number of years. We finally decided we did need to replace it - for the ease of opening wine bottles. It started out as kind of a 'status' thing with my husband, I think, but it quickly became a necessity for us. And, it's a great conversation piece.

Corkscrew doesn't remove the cork

3.0

Pros

  • Durable Materials

Cons

  • Awkward To Use

Best Uses

  • Wine Bottles
  • Gifts

I cannot get the corkscrew to remove the cork completely. There is no adjustment. Seems simple enough - insert wine bottle into clamp, clamp down, then with free hand, pull down handle to remove cork. Only problem is the cork doesn't come out completely, and you have to release the clamp, grab the bottle to pull the cork out the remainder of the way, and the handle is free to "unwind". I find myself pulling the bottle, trying to hold the crank down, then smacking the bottle down on the base when it finally releases! Very disappointed for the price.
